Description
The Workhorse of Medium Carbon Steels – With Real-World Toughness
We’ve been producing 1045 carbon steel round bars for over 15 years, and it’s still one of the most balanced materials we handle. Not too soft, not too brittle – just right for applications where you need strength that holds up, machinability that saves time, and cost-efficiency that makes sense. Think of it as the “all-terrain vehicle” of steel grades. Automotive axles, industrial spindles, construction pins – if it needs to handle stress without breaking the bank, 1045 is likely in the conversation.
Where It Works – And Why Our Version Stands Out
Take a typical case: a European customer needed 80mm diameter shafts for hydraulic systems. They tried cheaper alternatives, but inconsistent hardness led to premature wear. Our normalized 1045, with its uniform 0.45% carbon content and 570-700 MPa tensile strength, solved the issue. The yield strength (≥310 MPa) meant no deformation under load, and the 65% machinability rating (vs. 12L14 brass) reduced tool wear by nearly 30%.
- Dimensional precision matters – We offer ±0.02mm ground tolerances, but even our as-rolled (±0.1mm) is tighter than most competitors’ “standard”
- Heat treatment flexibility – Annealed for easier machining, Q+T for 217-241 HB hardness in high-wear parts
- Welding? Yes, with caveats – Preheat to 200-300°C, use low-hydrogen electrodes, and post-weld normalize for best results
We’ve seen customers struggle with porosity in welded joints – our ultrasonic testing (UT) catches internal flaws early, so you’re not discovering cracks during fabrication. Every batch comes with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates, and we’ll share full traceability from melt to final inspection.
From 5mm dowel pins to 500mm gear blanks, we control the process. Need polished Ra ≤ 3.2 μm for bearing surfaces? Or anti-rust coated bars shipped in export-ready crates? Done. Our 12m maximum length is a lifesaver for long shaft applications where joints add failure risk.
We’re a Chinese mill, but our standards aren’t “China standard” – they’re ASTM A29, EN 10083-2, and JIS G4051. The advantage? We combine large-scale production efficiency with the flexibility to customize. Small batches? Special lengths? Unique heat treatments? We’ve done it all. No project is too specific – send us your specs, and we’ll make it work. Honest advice included.
